A Weekend Yet

I’ve made it to the end of a very long week. We are in the middle of a run of Macbeth right now, and tonight I have the third consecutive performance of The Witch. Tomorrow is my day off, but I have to go into Chicago to meet with the girl who started Loyal Daughters so we can talk about my script, which I was finally able to finish this week.

I am excited about Loyal Daughters and Sons; the script feels really solid right now. Of course, I’m curious to see what Emily says. It’s nice to have this much done and to be able to work forward now though. We really wanted the script to feel fresh and it seems like we’ve accomplished that goal.

The Witch is going well; I’ve been impressed by how well we’ve been able to keep it fresh and fun to perform through out the run. Yesterday was great because we were in this beautiful park and managed to dodge the rain long enough to have awesome weather for the show. Unfortunately, we ended up having a tiny audience; apparently the word hadn’t been put out that we were performing that evening. Hopefully tonight we will have a bigger audience, but the show might be difficult, because we are performing at a park with a pretty busy road nearby. If I’m remembering correctly, we had a couple motorcycles to contend with last year.

We got to do some fun combat work on Macbeth this week. Now that we have all the choreography down, we’ve been working on our intentions and working in the moment of the fight. It’s really interesting and makes it much more exciting to got through. Instead of just going from one move to the next, I’ve been learning why one move comes after another and how my character is either trying to open up a target area on his opponent or how he has been put into a compromising position and becomes surprised by his opponents attack. I am really fortunate that I get to come to rehearsal and work on fights everyday. I’m learning quite a bit and I’m hoping it sticks with me.

USA! USA! USA!
